Description
Careers in Animal Agriculture: A description and analysis of career opportunities and recent developments in animal agriculture. Class meets Thursdays from 1:00-2:15 p.m. in 112 Kern
OBJECTIVES
1. Develop a general awareness of the many potential careers available to graduates of the Animal Sciences baccalaureate degree program.
2. Stimulate the interest of students in seeking and properly preparing for their chosen career.
3. Analyze current and future trends in animal agriculture regarding career opportunities.

2. Presentations by potential employers and/or by college graduates employed in occupations representative of career opportunities in animal agriculture.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attend each class session.
2. Prepare a report on three career presentations. Each report shall include the name of the speaker; a brief description of the career opportunity presented; and a description of the formal course work, practical skills, and experiences that would help an individual become properly prepared for an entry-level position.
These three reports shall be submitted for critiquing and grading by the instructors. The reports must be typed on one side of an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. The student must select, prepare, and submit the reports according to the following presentation schedule: (note: You must have attended class on that day to submit a report for the career opportunity presented there).

The first and second reports will be critiqued, graded, and returned to the student one week after the due date. The student will revise the report and submit copies of both the original and the revised versions one week later for final critiquing and grading. Only an original grade will be recorded for the third report.

GRADING AND GRADES
Reports, cover letters, and resumes will be evaluated and graded on the basis of content, clarity, spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and neatness. Points will be deducted for lateness (late on due date minus 5 points; one day after due date minus 10 points; two or more days after due date minus 15 points).
The grade for the first and second reports will be the mean of the grades assigned to the original and revised drafts submitted to the instructors for critique. The grade for the third report will be the grade assigned to the original draft submitted to the instructors for critique.
The course grade will be based on three reports, a cover letter and resume, promptness in meeting deadlines, class attendance, attendance at Ag Career Day, and submission of the career goals form according to the following schedule:

All assignments must be completed to obtain a satisfactory letter grade (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D). No examinations will be given. Course grades will be assigned on the following scale:
94-100............ A 75-79.............. C+
90-93.............. A- 70-74.............. C
87-89.............. B+ 60-69.............. D
84-86.............. B < 59................ F
80-83.............. B-
